![]() [Click above image to view at full size] Cataphora has been approached by the BBC to contribute to a three-part documentary series that will air in 2010. The series will describe the history and rise of computer systems and the way in which they help us to understand and organize human and social systems. Cataphora CEO Elizabeth Charnock visited the BBC Television Centre in London to film an interview for the documentary. The photograph shows her explaining Cataphora software, an important component of which is modeling of individual and organizational behavior, to senior BBC producer and documentary creator Adam Curtis. ![]() [Click above image to view at full size] Cataphora CEO Elizabeth Charnock appeared on a plenary session panel at the prestigious Monaco Media Forum. The panel was entitled The Data Dilemma and addressed opportunities and risks presented by the increasing availability online of personal information stemming from social media use and other sources. Cataphora Chief Linguist Dr. Dick Oehrle has been invited to serve on the National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists (NCLS). The NCLS explores and monitors emerging public policy issues of concern to scientists, lawyers, and judges in order to encourage a better understanding of science among lawyers and judges and to improve communication among lawyers, judges and scientists. Recent NCLS events and topics include a series of seminars for judges on the legal implications of advances in neuroscience, a practicum on scientific misconduct, and activities related to biosecurity research and policy. The NCLS is a joint committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Bar Association (ABA). Dr. Oehrle was the Linguistic Society of America's delegate to the AAAS from 2000 to 2002. He will serve three-year term on a committee of fourteen members drawn from the two nominating pools, the AAAS and the ABA. Keith Schon, Engineering Manager of Cataphora's Core Technology Group, recently gave a presentation on "Human Behavioral Modeling for Investigations" at an internal Colloquium at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). Keith was invited to illustrate how Cataphora utilizes its core technology to create human behavioral models from electronic data and the application of this technology in investigatory cases. PARC is renowned for such historic accomplishments as the first graphical user interface, the first object-oriented programming language (Smalltalk), and Ethernet, which has become the world's standard computer networking technology. ![]() [Click above image to view at full size] Congratulations to Cataphora QA Engineer Tom Peszek, who has been invited to train at the Olympic rowing training center in Oklahoma! Tom earned this amazing opportunity to contend for a place on the 2012 US Olympic rowing team through a series of tests, try-outs, and an outstanding rowing performance at the USRowing West Coast Fall Speed Order, an open national team competition in Oakland, California. Tom rowed on the University of Michigan rowing team for four years after walking onto the team in 2003, placed fourth in the eight-oared shell event at the 2007 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, and has been training on his own in the Bay Area since 2008, when he joined Cataphora. Cataphora enthusiastically supports Tom in his Olympic aspirations; he will remain a Cataphora employee during his training in Oklahoma City, which is expected to continue until the 2012 Olympics. |
