<p>
</p><p>
We at Cataphora are currently shaping the next generation of corporate search solutions built upon our unique, patented data and behavioral analysis techniques. By becoming a Technical Lead in our group, you can play a key role in architecting and developing new projects in a Business domain where every single query result actually matters - and where scalability often makes the difference.
</p><p>
Cataphora is a successful, growing software and services company where each employee has a chance to make a difference for our customers, which include Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and top American law firms. We operate in a world in which what we do really matters for these organizations - our industry leading technology and world class services organization help our customers gain vital insight into large collections of electronic data that typically comprise millions of documents. Cataphora is owned by its 100+ employees, not by venture capitalists or other outside investors. If you join us, you too will have the opportunity to own a piece of this pre-IPO company.
</p><p>
<b><i>What we are looking for</i></b>
</p><p>
You have a BS/MSCS or equivalent experience. With a strong Java/C++ background, you will have already developed or designed large-scale, mission-critical systems. Ideally you have also gained knowledge in Distributed Systems Design and/or in Information Retrieval.
</p><p>
Above all, our dedication to delivering the highest quality of software sends us all over the world looking for meticulous developers who won't be satisfied with their code until it has been thoroughly tested. We like to work with passionate individuals who enjoy finding elegant and efficient solutions to software engineering problems.
</p><p>
As we most highly value engineers who have an excellent capacity to adapt to new problems, we are strongly committed to internal education as needed, so no prior knowledge of a particular set of development tools, frameworks, or technologies is actually required. You will however, during the interview process, be required to demonstrate the extent of your problem-solving talents and general technical skills.
</p><p>
<b><i>Your responsibilities</i></b>
<ul>
<li>Actively contribute to architectural and design decisions in our enterprise product suite</li>
<li>Show a high degree of autonomy in developing well-documented and well-tested code, stabilizing and maintaining it</li>
<li>Interact with other engineering groups in order to ensure consistency throughout the products</li>
<li>Provide mentoring and training to junior software engineers</li>
<li>Gather and maintain knowledge about state-of-the-art enterprise-level technologies and methodologies</li>
</ul>

<b><i>What you will get from joining our group</i></b>
</p><p>
You will join a group of international, team-dedicated individuals working in a very collaborative, intellectually stimulating environment.
</p><p>
You will be able to closely interact with our customers and have unique opportunities to work on an amazing number of challenging, real-world problems, all with a high degree of importance both to the company and to our clients.
</p><p>
Finally, as we view engineering as a fundamental core competence of the company and care deeply about the level of involvement and the work conditions of our employees, we don't offshore engineering work: we only hire to bring people to our headquarters. Cataphora thus represents a perfect opportunity to learn and develop new skills as well as to share experience and knowledge with other excellent engineers.
</p><p>
<b>Note:</b> You must have U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or be able to obtain a visa with authorization to work in the United States. We will sponsor visas where appropriate.

We are looking for extremely talented and creative individuals to expand on and improve both our suite of data analysis techniques and our core behavioral analysis technologies. If you have the qualities we are looking for, this is excellent opportunity to get in on the rapid growth stage in a clearly successful and aggressively expanding pre-IPO company. One of the best things about working at Cataphora is the sheer variety and scale of the technical problems that are brought to us. We have no shortage of substantive real world problems, all with high levels of importance and visibility to our clients. We do have the need for people that can navigate the maze, developing solutions which most benefit our clients and which satisfy our own long term goals.
</p><p>
Cataphora is an award winning, employee-owned software company providing technology and services for high end litigations and investigations. Its customers include Fortune 500 companies, governmental agencies, and top American law firms. We pride ourselves on having been funded from the start entirely by revenues, with no venture capital investment. At Cataphora, your creativity and versatility will be focused on a wide variety of software development challenges and developing cutting-edge algorithms for analyzing very large datasets. We are more than 100 people strong, and continue to grow by providing superior technology to meet the needs of our customers.
</p><p>
<b><i>Job Description</i></b>
</p><p>
As a member of the Core Technologies Group, you will be joining an R&amp;D group aggressively seeking to expand our IP portfolio. This group both pursues long term technical development goals as well as creatively responding to challenging requirements brought in via our case work. We strongly believe that it is important to not lose focus on either side and that ultimately each side informs the other. A broad range of approaches are used including: social network analysis, statistics, mathematics, information retrieval and computational linguistics.
</p>
<b><i>What We Expect You to Do</i></b>
<ul>
<li>Propose and implement novel technological approaches to advance long term goals</li>
<li>Provide analytical support for ongoing customer projects</li>
<li>Provide technical leadership and education within engineering on the application of our core technology</li>
<li>Actively contribute to our patent portfolio and documentation of IP</li>
<li>Shape future technical direction of Cataphora products</li>
</ul>
<b><i>What We Expect You to Bring</i></b>
<ul>
<li>A good balance of experience between practical software development and research work</li>
<li>Substantial, relevant, technical expertise in any of several areas such as Language Engineering, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Large Scale Distributed Systems and so on</li>
<li>An ability to solve problems under demanding conditions due to time constraints, problem difficulty, and less than complete specification of requirements</li>
<li>Flexibility in approaches used, from novel algorithm development to extension or refinement of existing techniques and the judgment to choose well between them</li>
<li>Willingness to work within an empirical, data driven development process</li>
<li>Most importantly, a belief that there is always a better way</li>
</ul>
<b><i>What You Can Expect to Gain</i></b>
<ul>
<li>The art of success. Our development from a bootstrap startup to our current level of success without taking any capital investment is probably unprecedented for a software company. We are committed to internal education and openness to our employees about every step of the process</li>
<li>Experience working with a wide range of technologies and theoretical approaches, in very large data environments with large scale distributed systems</li>
<li>Access to a quantity and range of corpus data that is almost unparalleled</li>
<li>More importantly, a business focus that demands sophisticated analysis of the data and clients for whom the results are important</li>
<li>The experience of working for a company with upper management that not only appreciates your brilliance and results but regards it to be of utmost importance</li>
</ul>
<p>
<b>Note:</b> You must have U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or be able to obtain a visa with authorization to work in the United States. We will sponsor visas where appropriate.

</p><p>
We are looking for a highly accomplished senior-level systems administrator. If you have the skills we need, this is your opportunity to get in the door. One of the best things about working at Cataphora is that you get to do lots of different kinds of things every week. We are looking for a "jack of all trades," someone who is as happy stringing cable as setting up network management reports, someone who is comfortable both creating images for Windows servers and desktops and tuning huge advanced file systems on Linux servers.
</p><p>
Cataphora (<a href="http://www.cataphora.com" target="_blank">www.cataphora.com</a>) is an employee owned pre-IPO company that succeeds by providing truly superior technology to its customers. The company, located in Redwood City, develops a litigation-support application that it runs in an ASP-like model for its clients, which in turn means that this is a combination software development and operational environment. We process hundreds of millions of documents for our clients, and store the data on terabyte-plus disk arrays. The company has won several awards, and was featured in Fast Company magazine as one of this year's "Fast 50."
</p>
<b><i>Responsibilities</i></b>
<ul>
<li>Lots of hands-on systems and network administration work</li>
<li>Racking new servers, setting up new desktop systems, imaging machines and bringing them online</li>
<li>Creating images for new servers and desktops, both Linux/Unix and Windows 2000/XP</li>
<li>Writing detailed and comprehensive procedures for common tasks, automating tasks with scripts</li>
<li>Specifying, researching and ordering laptop, desktop, server, storage and networking gear</li>
<li>Ensuring successful, predictable 24x7 data center operations</li>
</ul>
<b><i>Required Skills</i></b>
<ul>
<li>Be familiar with systems administration on both Windows 2000/XP and Unix/Linux</li>
<li>Know how to read and write Perl and shell scripts</li>
<li>Fluently use Unix/Linux and Windows command line and utilities</li>
<li>Be creative, dutiful, responsible, versatile, and ethical</li>
<li>Communicate well with individuals and groups: in person, via email, and with instant messaging</li>
<li>Manage time and tasks well despite many competing demands</li>
<li>Have flexibility regarding your work hours</li>
</ul>
<b><i>Desired Skills</i></b>
<ul>
<li>Previous start-up experience</li>
<li>Experience in operational environments (i.e. not just software or hardware companies)</li>
<li>Technical support / help desk background</li>
<li>Knowledge regarding both hardware and software issues related to very large data</li>
<li>BSCS or equivalent experience</li>
</ul>

<p>
<b>Note:</b> You must have U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or be able to obtain a visa with authorization to work in the United States. We will sponsor visas where appropriate.

Cataphora is a young, growing company, building a business whose focus is the analysis of large corpora of electronic documents, a field rich in technological and commercial opportunities. We have a core technology, a working product, and a focused team of experienced and passionate software professionals with broad expertise. Our customer base is expanding and we are profitable.
</p><p>
We seek individuals with outstanding skills in the analysis of multi-lingual electronic corpora. We are open in principle to a variety of training, experience, and inclination---linguistics and computational linguistics, artificial intelligence and its applications, knowledge engineering. We are especially interested in individuals comfortable with the techniques and relative merits of both symbolic and statistical approaches. We actively engage both in the development of new advances of our core technology and product line and in the application of stable technology to customer needs. In the long run, both are essential to the health of our company; but in the short run, satisfying current customers is critical to our success. Current customers are often driven by impending deadlines and stringent criteria whose violation imposes significant penalties. This lends a certain intensity to the Cataphora working environment, and concomitant opportunities to earn significant rewards (along with considerable flexibility in working hours).
</p><p>
If this combination of rewards and challenges attracts you and you are interested in constructing working systems with demonstrated and growing value, we want to hear from you. (It is not our policy to handle relocations; TN visas or H1 visa transfers, however, are conceivable.)
