About Cataphora
Cataphora is both the pioneer and industry leader in the burgeoning field of evidence analytics, or the management and analysis of electronic data from an evidentiary perspective. While document management systems do a great job of managing documents as individual records, it is not their role to manage or analyze the collective meaning and implications of the data. Likewise, search engines do a marvelous job of retrieving documents that contain a given word, or some combination of phrases. Cataphora by contrast, is the world's authority on the implications of personal and organizational behavior as evidenced by the use of electronic media. A critical business problem
Cataphora was founded in January 2002 by a team of software engineers and scientists with decades of collective experience in knowledge management. We started with a fundamental yet simple insight into the evolving demands of corporate or "intranet" search: that increasingly often in real world business communication, the only way to get the beginning, middle, and end of a story is to automatically create a higher-level view that unifies many smaller pieces of dialogue and action. Otherwise put, in many instances, the document is no longer the correct unit of search.
Our example determining the meaning of the electronic message whose sole content is "yes, let's do it" - which first appeared on Cataphora's website in 2002 (see the Wayback Machine Internet Archive) - is now widely copied by others. In 2006, Cataphora was awarded a broad patent for fundamental technology to reconstruct causally related items and events into searchable units that we call discussions. We have been making our technology available in the e-discovery market since 2002.
